P20-M pirated discs seized in Manila

Some P20 million worth of pirated discs was seized in an anti-piracy operation in Manila shortly after midnight Wednesday.

The Optical Media Board and Southern Police District also arrested at least three people during the operation, radio dzBB reported early Thursday.

One of the arrested was a Chinese national believed to be behind the smuggling of the discs from China, the report said.

Also arrested were the driver and two helpers of the van used to transport the pirated discs.

The report said the OMB and the SPD had been monitoring the smuggling attempt for three days with the help of an informer.

Philippine authorities have been cracking down on piracy, even as pirated discs continue to be sold in downtown areas in Metro Manila. –KG, GMA News
