Naked man jumps and stomps on cars, causes over P500,000 worth of damage
A naked man was caught damaging vehicles in a dealership in Oregon, United States, by jumping on them last Monday, July 13.
Ole Kittleston, the general manager of the business, discovered the odd incident when he reviewed security footage after noticing the damage to the cars, as per Fox News-affiliate KPTV last Thursday, July 18.
“I think you’re just kind of shocked when you see someone stumble across the street, obviously not wearing any clothes – jump up on to a car, start jumping on the hood,” Kittleson was quoted as saying.
The unidentified man entered the parking lot with no clothes, climbed up on the cars and began jumping and stomping on their hoods. He also slid down the windshield of one vehicle.
Kittleson stated that the damage done to the automobiles will cost more than $10,000 (about P510,000) to repair.
As per report, authorities are still conducting an investigation to identify the man. Ryan Arcadio/JB

Lego replica Bugatti Chiron runs at top speed of 28.97 kph
Lego showcased the creative possibilities of its Technic line by building a full-scale, working replica of a Bugatti Chiron luxury car.
The Lego Chiron was composed of over one million Lego Technic elements. The replica consisted of nearly all Lego elements and even has the same pop-up rear spoiler, which ran on Power Function motors and pneumatics. The only bits not made of Lego elements are the steel roll cage, Chiron wheels and a steel frame, according to Top Gear.
Lego Chiron’s engine was made up of 2,304 Lego Power Function motors, which pumped out a theoretical 5.3 horsepower. Its estimated torque measured up to 92 Newton-meter. Top speed was a theoretical 28.97 kilometers per hour. Since Power Function motors are battery-operated, this Chiron replica is essentially an electric vehicle. Compared with the real Chiron’s four-wheel-drive system, Lego Chiron’s engines only put out power through the rear wheels.
The replica doesn’t have an acceleration pedal, so forward movement was accomplished through a potentiometer, which determines voltage levels. However, a traditional break pedal was still present.
The Lego team behind the project said in a statement that it took 13,438 man-hours of development and construction to build the one by one replica.
As icing on the cake, Lego got former Le Mans winner and test driver of the real Bugatti Chiron, Andy Wallace, to drive its Chiron replica. Alfred Bayle /ra

GM unveils Bolt electric car in Vegas
LAS VEGAS, United States—General Motors on Wednesday unveiled the production version of its Chevrolet Bolt electric car, on which the US auto giant is pinning its hopes for the emerging segment.
The Bolt aims to appeal to consumers looking at a more affordable price tag than the luxury, market-leading Tesla.
“It’s more than a car, it’s a platform that can be upgraded,” said GM chairman and chief executive Mary Barra, speaking at the Consumer Electronics Show in Las Vegas.
“Who are our customers? Anyone who wants to save time, money and the environment in a car that is truly fun to drive.”
The Bolt, set to go into production later this year, is designed to travel 320 kilometers (more than 200 miles) between charges.
It also features some of the connected technology found on rival vehicles including a Wi-Fi hotspot offering access to apps and services.
The price tag is expected to be in the range of $30,000 after government tax incentives, which is less than half the price of the current Tesla models on the market.
“The Bolt EV is truly the first EV that cracks the code of long range and affordable price,” Barra said.
The new GM car will be compatible with various connected platforms such as Apple CarPlay and Google’s Android Auto.
Bolt will also feature its own dedicated smartphone app, which will manage vehicle information and functions, such as charge status, maintenance and navigation.
The app will include a “gamification” feature that allows owners to “compete” by comparing driving styles to determine who is driving most efficiently.
The Bolt also includes a rear camera connected to the interior rear-view mirror, enabling drivers to see behind them even if their view is blocked by passengers.
Barra said the Bolt is the next step for GM toward more autonomous vehicles, and possibly new ownership models such as car sharing, two concepts other auto manufacturers are also eyeing.
“Down the road, the connectivity… will one day help us offer other technologies and transportation solutions that customers will demand,” she said.
“Everything from car-sharing apps to ownership models and automated driving, and one day self-driving cars.”

How much could you save on auto insurance?
Of all the monthly expenses we endure that have any chance of being reduced, auto insurance is right near the top of the list.
When it comes to auto insurance, a little comparison shopping could result in a savings of hundreds–and sometimes thousands–of dollars.
Following these guidelines can help reduce your auto insurance bill.
First, it pays to shop around. Instead of settling for the first quote you receive, do some comparison shopping, inquiring with at least three different insurers to get the best price–keeping in mind that the company’s customer satisfaction ratings and its overall reputation also count for a lot.
If you increase your deductible, you could also save on your premiums. The more you increase your deductible, the greater the savings you could achieve on your premium.
If you have an older car, you may not need collision or comprehensive coverage. As a general rule, it doesn’t make sense to buy comprehensive and collision coverage for a car worth less than $1,000, according to the Insurance Information Institute (III). If you don’t have an old car and, in fact, are buying a new vehicle, keep in mind that certain types of cars cost far more to insure than others. There’s big difference between the lofty insurance premiums you’re likely to face with a slick sports car as compared to the significantly lower rate that a small sport-utility vehicle (SUV) would command.
It also pays to shop around for different discounts, such as low-mileage discounts if you work at home or have a very short daily commute; car safety discounts if your vehicle has air bags, anti-lock brakes or a car alarm; good student discounts; marriage discounts; and more.
A clean driving record free of accidents, moving violations and claims; and a good credit history are other factors bound to work in your favor in your quest for a low auto insurance premium.

Google building car with no steering wheel
LOS ANGELES—Google is building a car without a steering wheel.
Sergey Brin, co-founder of the technology titan, told a Southern California tech conference Tuesday evening that Google will make 100 prototype cars that drive themselves — and therefore do not need a wheel. Or brake and gas pedals.
Instead, there are buttons for go and stop.
A combination of sensors and computing power takes the driving from there.
To date, Google has driven hundreds of thousands of miles on public roads with Lexus SUVs and Toyota Priuses outfitted with the special equipment.
This prototype is the first Google will have built for itself.
It won’t be for sale, and Google is unlikely to go deeply into auto manufacturing. In a blog post, the company emphasized partnering with other firms.

Jay Leno to drive $1 million classic Jaguar for the Mille Miglia race
This year’s Mille Miglia is packed full of famous cars and equally famous drivers – but when it comes to prodigious competition histories paired with A-list names, the combination of Jaguar Heritage Racing’s 1951 Ecurie Ecosse XK 120 roadster with Jay Leno and Ian Callum is hard to beat.
US TV talk show host, Jaguar collector and classic car enthusiast, Jay Leno, and Jaguar Design Director, Ian Callum, are legends of the automotive industry – and at the Mille Miglia this year their presence is complemented by that of the 1951 XK 120 Ecurie Ecosse roadster.
One of the most valuable and important XK 120s in the world, ‘LXO 126′ is the only surviving example of three original cars built to launch the Scottish racing team in 1952. A race winner in its period, it is most famously associated with raffish Anglo-Scottish aristocrat Sir James Scott-Douglas.
Scott-Douglas competed in a number of endurance races across Europe with Ecurie Ecosse and even went on to keep ‘LXO 126′ as a road car in 1953. In the same year, the car returned to the race track at the infamous Nurburgring; Ecurie Ecosse mechanics hastily converting it back into a competition car when one of the team’s C-type’s met with an accident.
Since then the car has been the subject of a meticulous restoration. Resplendent in the classic Flag Metallic Blue of the Ecurie Ecosse racing team, it was recently sold by Bonhams Auctions for $965,827 at the end of 2013 and has been loaned to Jaguar Heritage Racing for the Mille Miglia.
It won’t be the only Ecurie Ecosse car in Italy for this event – the Ecurie Ecosse C-type and D-type the original Ecurie Ecosse racing transporter will also be present at the start of the Mille Miglia in Brescia.
Ian Callum, Jaguar Design Director, said, “As a Scotsman, Ecurie Ecosse is incredibly close to my heart – so the chance to drive this incredible XK 120 through Italy is a once in a lifetime opportunity. Factor in a co-driver who’s almost as much of a Jaguar man as me – and there’s no doubt I’m going to love every minute!”
Jay Leno commented, “I’m fortunate to have an XK 120 in my garage – not to mention a few other incredible cars from Coventry – but this Ecurie Ecosse XK 120 is one of the most beautiful Jaguars ever built. I absolutely adore it. It’s a real honor to be asked to drive it on the Mille Miglia and to be able to revel in its history with someone like Ian is a true privilege.”
Jaguar Heritage Racing will be tackling the legendary Mille Miglia classic car endurance event from May 15-18 with a line-up of top-name drivers, which will be traversed over 1,000 grueling miles from Brescia-Rome-Brescia in ten of the most revered and sought-after historic Jaguar cars ever produced.
Meanwhile, ex-Jaguar Le Mans and World Sports Prototype Championship winner, Formula 1 driver and SKY F1 TV pundit Brundle along with ex-Formula 1 racer Bruno Senna are sharing the famous ‘Long Nose’ Jaguar D-type.
The penultimate example built, the D-type carries the registration 393 RW and is a true racing thoroughbred. Produced in March 1956 for the works team, it won the Reims 12-hour race, driven by Duncan Hamilton and Ivor Bueb then went on to finish sixth in the Le Mans 24 Hours.
Such is its originality, 393 RW carries the same wraparound aero windscreen, passenger seat, door and famous integrated tailfin as it did when it competed in 1956. After retiring from European competition, the car even had an extended career on American shores too, finishing third in the 1957 Sebring 12-hour race.
With D-type production beginning in 1954, the sight of this legendary Jaguar model in this year’s Mille Miglia is a fitting way to celebrate its 60th anniversary in 2014.

VW previews Taigun compact SUV in India
Barely have the lights dimmed from the Ford Ecosport launch before Volkswagen has announced that it, too, is getting into the B-segment SUV game. If there’s a Tiguan, there’s the Taigun. The latter, sure to cause confusion with sales reps and parking valets everywhere, will be VW’s bid for a cheap, hopefully cheerful SUV. As with many small cars these days, the vehicle will be built in India.
Here’s more from Volkswagen:
At the Auto Expo 2014 (5–11 February) in New Delhi, Volkswagen will present an advanced version of the near-production concept of the Taigun SUV. Compared to the first conceptual design – presented in São Paulo, Brazil – the new sport utility vehicle features a new rear section with outside-mounted spare wheel. And this is exactly the solution our future drivers wished for in the new Taigun. Background: the popularity of the version of the concept shown in São Paulo was simply overwhelming Nonetheless, Volkswagen took the opportunity to analyse feedback from around the world to adapt the new SUV ideally to customers’ wishes. One of these wishes: fast access to the spare wheel without having to empty the boot first. The advanced version of the SUV concept now meets this demand.
Compact dimensions and spacious interior. The Taigun is 3,859 mm long; with mounted spare wheel, it is 3,995 mm; the width of the SUV is 1,728 mm and the height 1,570 mm (with roof rails 1,605 mm). Between the front and rear bumpers, the vehicle sports a wheelbase of 2,470 mm, which is large in relation to its exterior length. Consequence: short overhangs and appealing proportions. Meanwhile, in the spacious interior, the concept car shows how Volkswagen imagines a sophisticated, versatile and compact SUV at affordable prices should be.
Efficient high-tech engine. The four-seat Taigun is powered by a new and fuel-efficient 1.0-litre TSI engine (turbocharged, direct injection petrol engine) with 81 kW / 110 PS (from 5,000/min). Average fuel consumption is just 4.7 l/100km (110 g/km CO2). This enables a range of around 1,000 kilometers (with a fuel tank capacity of 50 litres). The direct-injection turbocharged engine of the Taigun extends the range of the three-cylinder petrol engines based on the EA211 engine series by adding a configuration with direct fuel injection plus turbocharging technology, thus opening a new chapter in Volkswagen’s downsizing strategy. The engine is very fuel-efficient, and it offers high torque at low engine revs (175 Nm from 1,500/min). The concept vehicle (weight: 998 kg) accelerates to 100 km/h in just 9.2 seconds with the new engine. On the “Autobahns” of the country in which it was developed, namely Germany, which essentially do not have a speed limit, the Taigun would reach a top speed of 186 km/h. The engine is combined with a 6-speed manual gearbox.
Designed for the urban jungle. The Taigun, which is equipped with 17-inch alloy wheels and size 205/50 R17 tires, is adept at handling off-road terrain thanks to its high engine torque and high ground clearance. Nonetheless, the Volkswagen was clearly designed for the urban environment. Wherever it is used, the SUV utilises powerful disc brakes. Also providing a plus in active safety is the ESC electronic stabilisation programme which significantly reduces the risk of skidding.
The design – powerful and confident
Clear silhouette. The body of the Taigun – as compact as it is attractive – has been designed with an independent, confident and sporty look. From the side, the flared wings catch the eye; their powerful form is homogeneously integrated with the lines of the silhouette, which are otherwise very calm and clear, and extends into the doors. Defining the design of the silhouette is the slanted surface below the side windows, the so-called character line in the jargon of the designers. Stylistically, this precise character line connects the front and rear sections of the concept; at the rear, it transitions into the C-pillars. The independent form of these C-pillars is typical of a Volkswagen. The designers also worked in the rear door handles so that they sit flush and appear to be a part of the window design. The entire side profile expresses confidence and safety.
Sporty proportions. In the lower body area, the rugged side trim panels are appealing; they cover the side sills, wheel arches and lower sections of the bumpers. The vehicle’s short overhangs are advantageous both visually and for space utilization. In front, the overhang is just 708 mm and at the rear, 681 mm. Combined with the wheel base, which is wide compared to the compact exterior length, especially sporty proportions as well as – in terms of driving on off-road terrain – very good approach angles (28 degrees in front, 35.5 degrees at the rear) are the result. Last but not least, practical roof rails with integrated LED spotlights upgrade the vehicle’s off-road look when viewed from the side.
Confident front section. At the front, designers of the Taigun intentionally emulated the larger Volkswagen Tiguan and Touareg SUVs. Like them, the concept also exhibits lines that are dominated by horizontal design elements. The striking and powerful front section of the Taigun stands for a design concept that emphasizes the width and thus the confident flair of the SUV. This clear predominance of horizontal lines extends to the design of headlights that are integrated in the front grille. The light signature of the LED daytime running lights frames the grille, thus accentuating the width of the Taigun once more. A metal underbody protection panel was designed into the bumpers. Just as in every other perspective, the concept car – with its balanced proportions – is also very powerful and self-confident at the front; this fact is conveyed by the opulent track width of 1,473 mm (front and rear identical) which is large in relation to the vehicle’s overall width (1,728 mm without mirrors).
Sophisticated rear section. The newly designed rear section of the Taigun presented in India is characterised by an outside-mounted spare wheel. When the boot lid is opened, it swings out with the lid; the boot lid is hinged on the driver’s side. The rear screen, with the roof spoiler integrated above it, opens separately upwards. As well as at the front, the concept car has a rugged metal underbody protection panel at the rear. The designers have integrated the vehicle licence plate in the centre of this underbody protection panel – between the end pipe of the exhaust system (left) and the towing lug (right). An intriguing detail: the handle for opening the boot lid is homogeneously integrated in the right taillight.
Signalling effect. The Taigun is painted in a friendly pearl effect color called “Ultra Orange.” The color is designed to underscore the sportiness of the concept car.
Interior – ideal space utilisation
Bright ambience. Like from the outside, , the designers developed a look for the interior that reflects, in its clarity, the spirit of the times in our urban world. Those with an affinity for the latest smart phones or tablet computers will also like the interior design, the feel of its surfaces and the layout of controls in the Taigun. The colour and trim concept plays with a contrast of elegance, on the one side, and the sporty functional off-road character, on the other. The beige seat covers feature a honeycomb structure; the material itself is rugged and easy to clean. The orange piping offers a fresh contrast to the beige hue of the seats and an optical bridge to the colour of the exterior. The inner surfaces of the side supports are covered in faux leather.
Rugged surfaces. The base body of the doors as well as the upper and lower sections of the dashboard were furnished by the designers with a sporty black grain. Painted analogously to the colour of the exterior: the storage compartments in the doors, the centre console and the area below the dashboard. The upper part of the dashboard and the rim of the door inserts, meanwhile, are finished in a metallic beige. All metal applications are made of matt anodised aluminum.
996 litres boot volume. The SUV is a fine example of optimal space utilization. The tailgate encloses a 280 liter bootspace; when the rear bench seat is folded down, cargo capacity in the Taigun equipped with a double cargo floor increases to 996 litres. Storage compartments are also integrated in the swiveling tailgate (load width: 900 mm), which can be opened with an aluminum handle.
Great vista guaranteed. The high seat position is typical of an SUV and is based on the desire of many customers to drive a car with optimal comfort in entry and exit and to have the best possible visibility in traffic. Headroom in front is 1,036 mm, while it is 980 mm in the rear seating area; in addition, the vehicle’s long legroom ensures excellent comfort in the rear seating area. The driver’s workspace can be optimally adjusted for every body height; the steering wheel, for example, can be adjusted in height over an angle of 25 degrees.
Intuitive operability. The operation of all interior functional elements is absolutely intuitive. Best example: the dials in the air nozzles on the dashboard. They can also be used to control the temperature and blower speed and their settings read in an ingeniously simple way. The Taigun is also equipped with an infotainment system on the dashboard; it offers interfaces for all commonly used smart phones. To the right of the radio-navigation system is the combination on/off/volume control. If a smart phone is connected, a “Taigun Infotainment App”, programmed especially for the SUV, appears on the display; the app corresponds to the color and trim concept of the interior.
Everything in view. Centrally located under the infotainment system and finished in fine aluminum are the hazard warning light switch (middle) and the buttons for rear window heating, defrost function, air conditioning system and exterior lights. Above the radio-navigation system on the dashboard there are three other auxiliary instruments (oil pressure, coolant temperature and charge pressure). Fitting in well with these features is the leather-trimmed three-spoke steering wheel, which has a sporty flat bottom and fits perfectly in the hands. The response of the Indian trade-fair visitors and the Indian media is something Volkswagen awaits with great excitement – their feedback will also be incorporated into the final conception of the production model.

The all-new Honda Accord: Moving the goalpost
THE ALL-NEW ninth-generation Accord is the first of Honda’s three-pronged assault to the market for 2014.
With Honda Cars Philippines firmly back into the mix, they have brought their A-game, promising more new models to introduce to the country. Despite a lack of a diesel-powered SUV, pickup or MPV/people-mover, no one seems to have told the good people at Honda that since they enjoyed one of their best-ever years in 2013. A revitalized Civic, CR-V, City and Jazz models have kept sales strong despite announcements of new models for the latter two vehicles. The CR-Z hybrid sports coupe has also impressed the market with steady sales.
The all-new ninth-generation Accord is the first of Honda’s three-pronged assault to the market for 2014. The Accord features significant changes which will help claw back market share in the small but hotly contested executive sedan segment.
Chassis:
The Accord’s chassis has significant revisions to call it all-new: improved torsional rigidity and stiffness, with increased NVH refinement to boot, making Honda boast that the Accord is the class leader in NVH refinement. The secret is liquid-filled subframe and crossmember mounts which help isolate the chassis further from all harshness. Liquid-filled mounts, particularly for engines, are an old technique to reduce NVH, but Honda, to their knowledge are the first to introduce this technology in a segment below ultrapremium luxury exotic vehicles. Of course the engines also feature the same technology which tag-teams NVH into oblivion, giving you a smoother, more comfortable and more refined drive. Wheelbase is slightly shorter, but width has grown slightly to improve in-car interior space further and is also slightly lower overall to reduce wind noise and of course drag, which helps in fuel efficiency.
Suspension:
Pundits will cry that the new Accord’s MacPherson strut front suspension, a departure from the previous model’s double-wishbone, will reduce handling keenness. Fear not, as you won’t be able to tell the difference, such is the Accord’s finely-tuned, sport-biased suspension settings. The switch from double wishbone suspension to MacPherson strut design up front also yielded a 15.2-kilogram weight savings which is more than welcome as it reduces the Accord’s front-heavy feel, something we greatly appreciated in the tight, winding roads of Bataan. The rear continues on with a multilink set-up that gives increased stability even when fully loaded through very twisty roads or on very high speeds on the highway. Even the steering system, which is now a fully electric design, featuring an electric motor wrapped around the steering column for power assistance, has impressive feel for a vehicle in this segment.
Powertrain:
Both the 2.4 four-cylinder and 3.5 V6 engines feature Earth Dreams Technology: lighter engine internals for reduced losses, better response, more power and better fuel efficiency. The 2.4-liter is an all-new block which rotates in the reverse direction compared to the older model. Power is still the same at 172.60 horsepower, but fuel efficiency is improved and the engine exhales cleaner air. The V6 is still the same block but features a revised VCM or Variable Cylinder Management which can automatically shut-off half its cylinders from six-cylinder operation to three-cylinders immediately, whereas the previous model was 6-4-3 cylinder operation. This reduces fuel consumption further. Power also remains the same at 281, but again with improved fuel economy. Honda is also quick to point out that the power ratings were achieved with regular 95-Octane fuel: Switching to 97 or 100 Octane fuel will yield noticeable gains in power and performance. The 2.4 four-cylinder comes with a smooth shifting and responsive five-speed automatic devoid of shift-shock, a problem for many Honda automatics, whereas the V6 comes with a six-speed slick-shifting automatic, with sixth gear being a very long overdrive that helps it consume very little fuel: At 3,000 revolutions per minute, the Accord can cruise at right around 165 kilometers per hour on a derestricted stretch of highway. With i-VTEC on both engines, the Accord has enough torque to muscle itself into high speed at very low revolutions per minute.
Interior:
Honda boasts that the Accord has always had class-leading interior space, fit-and-finish, and high-quality materials. In the Accord’s case, they have truly raised the bar. The interior comes wrapped in leather with very fine stitching and features two LCD displays, one for the in-car trip and efficiency computer, the other a touch-screen display for the infotainment system with Bluetooth connectivity for your mobile phone or media device, exclusive to the V6 model. Despite being very slightly shorter and smaller exterior-wise compared to the out-going model, interior room is still best in class with more than enough space for Tetsuya Natsume, Honda’s 6-foot-plus president to cozily fall asleep in the back seat with 5’10” me driving for him. Talk about pressure! A stint in the back seat shows extensive foot-, knee- and legroom for my oversized XXL frame, too. The dash architecture is simple and classy; no cheap-feeling gimmicks here. It feels like a European-made sedan built to compete with the best of the world. As to be expected from a Honda, driving position is excellent: The seats feature 12-way adjustment, and the steering wheel features both reach and rake adjustment, allowing me to dial myself in naturally for a comfortable yet ergonomically correct driving position for hours on end. The steering wheel also has auxiliary controls for the infotainment system with paddle-shifters for the transmission.
Exterior:
The Accord also features full LED headlamps and tail lamps, and also features active front cornering lamps which activate when you turn the steering wheel left or right with your headlamps on. It helps give the Accord a more stately and sophisticated aura as the LED strip lights also double as daytime running lamps for increased visibility.
Honda projects to sell about 700 or so units of the Accord annually with an even split for both the 2.4 and 3.5 models. It’s the executive sedan for the self-driven types but has the stately persona for a chauffeur-driven executive sedan as well. With all the features packed in, the Accord is a real winner.

Detroit 2014: Lexus to launch V8-powered RC F coupe
Giving new meaning to “back to the grind,” the daily commute is now transformed into a day at the track with the all-new Lexus RC F. The RC F coupe is styled to support the most powerful V8 performance car ever developed by Lexus.
Based on the spectacular all-new RC coupe that was revealed at the Tokyo Motor Show last November, the RC F has wider wheels and tires, an active rear wing, air scoops, cooling ducts and available carbon fiber components, each delivering uncompromising grit to the driving experience.
Design Exterior
The signature Lexus spindle grille, featuring a subtle F-pattern on the lower half, dominates the front of the RC F from the bottom of the hood to the lower lip. The hood is higher than that of the RC to accommodate the larger V8 engine and create the powerful flared profile suited to an F model. Ducts beneath the front bumper, fenders, and strategically-placed aerodynamic stabilizing fins create a stance which further identifies the F model.
Air outlets at the rear of the front fender form the shape of an L when they merge with side sill extensions, while stacked trapezoidal quad-outlet tailpipes at the rear add further aggression. Taking design cues from the Lexus LFA supercar, the RC F features an available speed-sensitive active rear spoiler. It enhances the coupe’s lines at standstill and deploys from the RC F’s deck at approximately 50 mph and retracts when the speed is less than 25 mph. The wing helps the RC F maintain traction and stability at higher speeds.
Three variations of 10-spoke 19-inch forged aluminum wheels are available, including two machine polished designs and one design hand polished by a craftsmen.
Design Interior
The striking cockpit-like interior of Lexus RC F complements the aggressive exterior. Unique components include the meters, steering wheel, seats, ornamentation and pedals. The instrument panel is dominated by a central meter which changes according to the four selectable driving modes. The information, color of the display and size of text can be changed.
Occupant comfort is all important. RC F debuts a Lexus-first elliptical cross-section thick-grip steering wheel with optimum placement of paddle gear shifts. All-new high back seats with an embossed F on the headrests offer the driver and passenger an exceptional performance fit. The seats are available in a selection of five leather trims, each with contrasting stitching.
Outstanding new L-shaped rubber slits in the brake and accelerator pedals combine form and function to provide better foot grip.

Mercedes-Benz launches all-new C-Class: bigger, lighter
Mercedes-Benz has launched the all-new C-Class sedan in Stuttgart, Germany. The car debuts with what Mercedes calls “sensuous and clear design,” several new engines, and a larger interior. The C has grown by 80mm in wheelbase, is 95mm longer, and 40mm wider. The increase benefits rear-seat legroom. Trunk capacity is also bigger, at 480 liters.
The new C looks decidedly sleeker than its predecessor, taking styling cues from the new S-Class as well as the CLA compact sedan. LED lighting is standard for the taillights and available for the headlamps. The interior follows the sporty styling theme seen in the new A-Class and sports cars, with a large center console flowing up into the instrument panel.
Engine choices at launch are the C220 Bluetec diesel with 170 hp and 400 Nm, the C180 1.6 liter gasoline with 156hp and 250Nm, and the C200 2.0 liter gasoline with 184hp and 300Nm. These are mated to the 7Gtronic seven-speed automatic.
A first for the C-Class and in this car category is the available air suspension. Variable damping allows switching between “Comfort” all the way to “Sport+” mode.
Mercedes says that the C is lighter by 100kg from its predecessor.
If CATS Motors follows previous launch schedules, watch out for the C-Class to land in the Philippines in the first half of 2014.

At 50, new-look Mustang still has plenty of muscle
DEARBORN, Michigan — America’s first pony car — the Ford Mustang — is celebrating its 50th birthday with a new design and plans to go global.
Ford Motor Co. was to reveal the 2015 Mustang on Thursday morning at events in New York, Los Angeles, Shanghai, Sydney, Barcelona and its Michigan hometown. It goes on sale next later year in North America and will arrive later in Europe and Asia.
The U.S.-made car is currently sold overseas, but this is the first time it has been engineered to meet various international safety and emissions standards. A right-hand-drive version is being offered for the first time, for the United Kingdom and Australia, and Ford will market the car more heavily overseas.
Chief engineer Dave Pericak said that while the design meets international needs, it wasn’t influenced by them.
“We did not design a global Mustang. We designed a Mustang and took it global,” Pericak said.
The Mustang isn’t anywhere near Ford’s best-seller, but Ford says the Mustang has the highest name recognition and highest favorable opinion of any car in its lineup.
“It’s an emotional connection to the rest of the brand,” said Jacques Brent, group marketing manager for large cars and SUVs.
The Mustang’s first full redesign since 2005 presented Ford with a tough task: Update and freshen an icon without alienating its passionate fans. More than 9 million Mustangs have been sold since 1964, and the car has hundreds of fan clubs. Farrah Fawcett drove a white one in “Charlie’s Angels;” Steve McQueen raced a dark green one through the streets of San Francisco in 1968′s “Bullitt.”
The result is a new car with plenty of cues from the old. But the new car sits lower and wider, and the roof tapers dramatically in the front and back.
Even with Ford’s push, overseas sales will likely be modest, said Stephanie Brinley, an auto analyst with the consulting company IHS. IHS forecasts European Mustang sales will triple from current levels to around 2,500 in 2015, while sales in China will likely remain low because two-door coupes aren’t popular there.
Coupes, in fact, make up less than 1 percent of sales annually across the globe, Brinley said. But they’re still an important car for automakers to have.
“It’s an aspirational body style. It signals a sporty drive and a sexier product,” she said.
Ford isn’t saying how much the new Mustang will cost, but the current one starts around $23,000. A convertible version will also be offered.

Paul Walker dies in car crash during charity event for Philippine typhoon victims
“Fast and Furious” star Paul Walker is, indirectly, the latest victim of supertyphoon Haiyan/Yolanda. According to reports from multiple sources including his official Twitter page, the actor was at Santa Clarita, California, for a car show to support relief effort for Philippine typhoon victims. He had been taking friends out for rides in his Porsche when he met with an accident. It was not verified who was driving the car or why the accident happened. Paul Walker was 40 years old.
Walker’s representatives posted online, using the actor’s official Twitter and Facebook account, “It is with a truly heavy heart that we must confirm that Paul Walker passed away today in a tragic car accident while attending a charity event for his organization Reach Out Worldwide.”
“He was a passenger in a friend’s car, in which both lost their lives.”
Ame Van Iden, the actor’s publicist, said the accident happened Saturday afternoon (US time) in Los Angeles.
The Los Angeles County Sheriff’s department said the crash happened in community of Valencia. The Santa Clarita Signal reported a red Porsche crashed into a light pole and tree and burst into flames.
TMZ, the first entertainment website to break the news, said Walker was in a Porsche when its unidentified driver supposedly lost control and crashed into a tree.
The same article said Walker was in Los Angeles for “a car show to support the Philippines typhoon relief effort.”
The actor, together with his co-stars, earlier urged people to help the Philippines in the aftermath of what is now considered among the world’s strongest typhoons that left more than 5,000 people dead in the country.
Walker is the founder of Reach Out Worldwide, a humanitarian aid organization formed in 2010 to help victims of the Haiti earthquake. The organization has already sent medical teams to areas affected by the super typhoon “Yolanda.”
Until now, fans refuse to believe news of the actor’s death, thinking it is another hoax.
But Walker’s representatives said on Facebook, “We appreciate your patience as we too are stunned and saddened beyond belief by this news. Thank you for keeping his family and friends in your prayers during this very difficult time. We will do our best to keep you apprised on where to send condolences.”
Walker was working on the latest “Fast & Furious” movie at the time of his death. He also starred in the suspense drama, “Hours,” a movie that is set for release this month.

Honda unveils 4th generation City in India
Honda Cars has launched the 4th generation City at a world premiere event in India. The new car launches in India with a 1.5-liter i-DTEC diesel engine. The new car was developed at Honda’s Tochigi R&D center, with input from ASEAN and Indian markets where the car will be sold.
The all-new City carries Honda’s new ‘Exciting H Design,’ comprised of grand sounding features like ‘Solid Wing Face, Well Toned Athlete Form body and Finely Honed Surfacing.’ In actuality, it’s a well-rendered sedan version of the similarly new Jazz.
The new City will maintain the same footprint as the previous model, at 4440mm length x 1695mm width. Wheelbase is increased by 50mm to 2600mm, notably as long as some C-segment sedans, and height also goes up by 10mm.
The interior features a ‘futuristic Layered Floating Cockpit…concentrated for driver convenience and can be operated like a smartphone.’

Auto sales boom spawns a used car market in China
GUANGZHOU, China—As car enthusiasts converge on the annual Guangzhou auto show, few have anything except a shiny new set of wheels in mind. But explosive growth that transformed China into the world’s largest auto market is also giving life to a new industry here: used cars.
Chinese started buying new cars in huge numbers about four years ago, about the average length of time analysts say drivers will stick with a vehicle before trading it in for a fresh model.
The secondhand market is already taking off, with sales growth last year outpacing that for new vehicles. By volume it is still dwarfed by new cars, which outsold used vehicles three to one. In countries such as the US, that ratio is reversed, highlighting the secondhand market’s vast potential to make car ownership affordable for millions more Chinese.
The challenge in China is to develop a modern market for secondhand autos. The business is dominated by thousands of small trading companies that operate out of big trading halls or open air markets on city outskirts. Vehicles are sold tax free and ownership can be transferred in a day but quality and fair pricing can be uncertain. By some estimates, four in five used car transactions take place at these markets.
For foreign automakers, “the used car business in China is very different to anything that you would recognize in the Western world,” said Marin Burela, president of Changan Ford, the US company’s China joint venture.
Global automakers have been slow to add used car sales at dealerships but are now racing to expand into the business, which will diversify their revenue and help build brand loyalty.
Liu Yu-chen, a 28-year-old snack food entrepreneur, plans to buy his first second-hand car after owning a series of new vehicles, the latest a Toyota Prado SUV bought in August.
“After conducting a good inspection, you just need to figure out whether the car appears to have been in any accidents,” said Liu as he browsed vehicles at Guangzhou’s Guangjun Used Car Market, which houses dozens of small auto trading companies.
He is budgeting up to 1 million renminbi ($164,000) for a used Land Rover and doesn’t consider the price tag high. Luxury autos tend to be more expensive in China because of taxes and foreign automakers pushing the limits of what they can charge.
“What I want to buy is a well maintained car, no damage. Scratches don’t matter. If there’s no big problem with the bumpers, no weird sound from the engine, then I’ll consider it,” said Liu, who flew from his home in the central city of Xian to car shop in the southern economic boomtown because he thought they would be cheaper.
Last year in China, used car sales rose 11 percent to 4.8 million vehicles, while new car sales rose 7 percent to 15.5 million. Ford’s Burela, speaking at the Guangzhou auto show which runs until Saturday, said the industry expects used car sales of 6 million this year, about 10 million in 2016 and 20 million by 2020, putting it on par with new vehicle sales.
About half of Ford’s 500 dealerships have been approved to sell “certified” used cars that come with warranties. The company has also opened six showrooms this year selling only secondhand vehicles.
Dealers in China will need to focus on used auto sales to raise their profit margins as new car sales start to plateau. In the US, about 55 percent of a dealer’s revenue comes from new vehicle sales while 25 percent to 30 percent comes from second hand sales, and the rest from parts and servicing.
But in China, new car sales have accounted for 90 percent of revenue, said Ivo Naumann, Shanghai-based managing director of advisory firm AlixPartners.
Chinese brands, unpopular because of quality concerns, will likely fall further behind the dominant foreign brands including General Motors, Volkswagen, Toyota and Nissan as the secondhand market develops, Naumann said.
“Some people who probably historically would have bought a new car because they were first time buyers, they’ll say: Well I only have $8,000, I could buy a Chinese brand, low quality, or I could buy this second hand car from Volkswagen. And then that can have an impact on the overall market,” Naumann said.
Because China’s auto industry is still new, there are bottlenecks holding back growth of the secondhand trade. For one, there’s no system of easily transferrable temporary plates for dealers, constraining the number of cars they can have in stock.
Another problem is lack of accurate and consistent information about prices. Beijing-based Bitauto Holdings, which runs a car pricing and listing website, is teaming up with US company Kelley Blue Book to launch a China price guide next year using data on 1 million transactions from their other partner, the China Automobile Dealers Association.
Some dealers have adopted the latest technology. Dongfeng Nissan, the Japanese company’s China joint venture, has its own system to assess trade-in values. Staff use iPads to carry out a step-by-step check. They can photograph scratches or other damage and upload it.
“The system will automatically prompt an overall score on this car and a recommended resale price to staff,” said deputy general manager Yasuhiro Konta.
Currently, most owners who want to sell a car will typically take it to between three and five traders to get an idea of price, usually an estimate by a senior employee based on their own judgment, said Bitauto’s chief financial officer Andy Zhang.
“The whole experience is fairly insecure,” Zhang said. “It’s very important to have those benchmark prices out there.”

Kia recalling over 96,000 vans to fix suspensions
DETROIT – Kia Motors Corp. is recalling more than 96,000 minivans in the U.S. and Canada because a suspension part can break and cause drivers to lose control of the vehicles.
The recall affects Sedona minivans from 2006 through 2012. They were sold or registered in Canada and in 20 U.S. states and Washington, D.C., where salt is used to clear roads in the winter.
The U.S. National Highway Traffic Safety Administration said the lower control arms near the wheels can rust and break due to salt exposure.
Kia dealers will inspect the parts and rustproof or replace them for free starting next month.
In the U.S., the recall covers nearly 80,000 vans. More than 16,000 Sedonas are covered in Canada.
Kia said it doesn’t know of any injuries or crashes caused by the problem.
