Metallica saved Anthrax’s career

Anthrax bassist Frank Bello has credited Metallica for saving his band’s career by giving them the “kick up the ass” they needed.

The Big 4 shows in 2010 and 2011 – also starring Slayer and Megadeth – forced Anthrax to refocus on delivering acclaimed album Worship Music, which had been blighted by a series of disasters over a number of years.

A reunion with classic-era singer Joey Belladonna resulted in his second departure and ousted frontman John Bush decided not to return. Anthrax hired Dan Nelson but dramatically sacked him on the eve of the album’s release. Bush returned but refused to commit his future to the band, then Belladonna finally made a full-time return. Guitarist Scott Ian recently said the current lineup will be the thrash giants’ last.

With Belladonna finally secured Anthrax re-recorded Worship Music and released it to coincide with the Big 4 show in New York in 2011.

Now Bello tells Pure Grain Audio: “I take my hat off to Metallica. Not only are they our friends, but they really gave us a kick in the ass, which is what we needed to be a band again.

“Metallica’s the biggest band in the world. To be on stage with them, let alone the Big 4, was huge for us. It put us back in the limelight, in front of this whole new fanbase.

“To see 14-year-old kids coming up, saying they love this record, they grew on my bass playing from their father – I love that. That’s what it’s about.”

Bello says of Worship Music: “You’ve gotta come up with the goods. Nobody cares if you don’t come up with the goods. We knew we had something special. It all worked. It was the perfect storm.”

Meanwhile, Slipknot and Stone Sour frontman Corey Taylor has revealed he missed out on his chance to work with Anthrax – because his label wouldn’t let him do it.

He was approached about contributing to Worship Music during the period before Belladonna’s return, and says he’d have loved to take them up on the offer.

Taylor tells Radio Metal: “When they sent me some riffs and some music they’d done, I thought it would be fun, not only as a friend but as a fan, to see where the demos could go after my involvement.

“My label forced me out of the project so I wasn’t able to do it. They wanted a new Slipknot album. When I was all set to fly to Chicago and work with Anthrax, the label told me they wouldn’t let me do it.

“At first I was really mad about it but I let it go after a while. I went on to do All Hope Is Gone and Anthrax called Joey back.”

But Taylor adds: “I told them I would love to help them in writing stuff in the future.”

Metallica aren’t elder statesmen – Ulrich

Lars Ulrich says Metallica try to avoid acting like big shots backstage – although they may be guilty of having done so in the past.

The drummer insists he likes to avoid giving advice to younger bands, and reveals he still has his own star-struck moments when he meets heroes like Dave Grohl and Neil Young.

Ulrich tells The Owl: “We always try to go and hang out.

“We definitely had the days of hiding behind the big walls, and we may have been guilty doing some of that stuff in the 90s, but we really try to put ourselves out there.

“It’s more fun for us. It’s great to meet other people and immerse yourself in some of that energy.

“When I’m around Jack White or Dave Grohl or people like Neil Young, I’m like a fucking kid in the candy store myself. I went to see Muse and the Arctic Monkeys and the Black Keys – these are great experiences for me too.”

The thrash giants might be expected to be asked for hints and tips, but Ulrich says: “I give as little advice as possible, man. If somebody asks me I’ll try to answer just their sincere questions. But we don’t walk around like some sort of elder statesmen.”

Meanwhile, Mission to Lars film maker Kate Spicer has admitted she hoped Ulrich might turn out to be an “a’hole” because it could have made her movie more interesting.

The drummer has shown active support for the documentary which tells the story of Spicer’s learning-disabled brother Tom and his attempt to deal with his demons in order to finally meet his hero.

Reporting on a showing of the movie in Mexico City, which Ulrich attended, she says: “I thanked Lars for showing Tom the respect that so often learning-disabled people are not afforded.

“People asked him why he had done the film, and part of his answer was that perhaps because he’s a parent he is much more compassionate. I found it strangely touching, though it was not an unusual thing to say. He had three wristbands on – they were from a trampoline place he takes his kids.

“I said we had hoped, secretly, sometimes before we got to meet him, that Lars might turn out to be an a’hole, so that our film might have some Borat magic.”

Metallica Help Police Search for Murderer

Metallica frontmant James Hetfield has filmed a public service video to aid law enforcement officials in tracking down a man suspected of murderering Virginia Tech student Morgan Harrington after the band's 2009 gig in Charlottesville, Virginia. Hetfield shared a police sketch of the suspect and urged fans to speak up. "Remember, any information – no matter how small you might think it is – could be that crucial piece investigators need to help solve the case," he says.

FBI officials have used DNA evidence found with Harrington's corpse to link her killer to a 2005 sexual assault in Fairfax City, Virginia. Police fear that the suspect is predatory, and may attack other women if he has not already. The Jefferson Area Crime Stoppers organization is offering $100,000 for any information leading to an arrest, and Metallica has put up a $50,000 reward.

Metallica Tee Shirts - A Tribute to the Band

The name Metallica is synonymous with heavy metal and if you ever attended any of the heavy metal concerts you'd see them flooded with the Metallica tee shirts. What better tribute to the band than to sport their tee shirts when at their concerts!

The Metallica band started off from Los Angeles, California, in 1981 with the duo James Hetfield and Lars Ulrich. They were later joined by Dave Mustaine, Ron McGovney, Kirk Hammett, Robert Trujillo, Cliff Burton and Jason Newsted. As a band they were highly inspired by the heavy metal band Diamond Head from the UK. Soon after, they relocated to San Francisco.

Their tee shirts pay them the tribute they deserve, flashing names like "Death Magnetic", "Master of Puppets", and "Ride the Lightning". Their debut release in 1982 was "Metal Massacre", followed by "Kill 'em All" in 1983. Their third album "Master of Puppets" in 1986 was described as influential and was deemed one of the best heavy thrash metal albums.

Their early releases covered instrumentals; fast tempos and aggressive musicianship, thus placing them amongst the 'big four' thrash metal bands along with Slayer, Anthrax and Megadeath. Their tee shirts are an apt tribute for their many achievements.

The first Grammy Award nomination that Metallica received was for "Justice for All" in 1989 for the Best Hard Rock / Metal Performance Vocal or Instrument category. Even though Metallica was the expected favorite to win, the award went to another band. This no doubt, created some controversy among the press and fans. Yet their tee shirts have stood them in good support as a tribute.

Metallica has released three live albums, nine studio albums, five extended plays, 45 singles and 24 music videos. The band has also won nine Grammy Awards. With such a span of achievements as tee fronts they couldn't receive a better tribute to prove their status as heavy thrash metal band.

December 2006 saw Metallica release a DVD with all their music videos starting from 1989 to 2004, with a sale of 28,000 copies in the first week itself. Metallica also became the first band in the history of the Billborad 200 to have five consecutive studio albums debuted at number one with their album "Death Magnetic" which sold as many as 490,000 units.

Metallica was inducted into the San Francisco "Walk of Fame" in March 1999. They were also ranked the third "Greatest Heavy Metal Band" by MTV. In April of 2009 Metallica was inducted into the "Rock and Roll" Hall of Fame.

Metallica's achievements are so many! It is difficult to recount all of them here in support of the credit of attributing tee shirts to them as a tribute to the band. They certainly have proved their worth as a band that is so deserving and highly acclaimed.

Metallica has been a one of its kind hard thrash band to have earned such acclaim and fan following. Fans would proudly love to wear the Metallica Band Tee Shirts as a tribute.

Metallica t shirts are available at ShirtHunt.com, one of the most popular band t shirts online store! Fast shipping to almost any country of the world! Get your tee now!
