Google: Pinoys caught up in 'Kony' trend

Filipinos appear to be among the most curious about Joseph Kony, a controversial Ugandan guerrilla leader accused of trying to turn Uganda into a theocracy.

Search giant Google said the Philippines was in the top 10 countries that searched for Kony worldwide in the last seven days.

"The Insights for Search graph ... shows that Pinoys are catching up to this trend, with the country being the 10th in terms of Google search volume worldwide," it said.

Puerto Rico had placed first on the Top 10 list, followed by Singapore, Australia, Canada, United States, New Zealand, Ireland, United Kingdom, Norway, and the Philippines.

However, Google's Insights for Search also showed a decline in interest over time for "I am Joseph Kony" from March 8 to 12.

Google noted social networks went abuzz on Invisible Children’s film titled “KONY 2012,” which is uploaded on Google's video-sharing site YouTube.

The video, which aims to create awareness on Kony, became viral even among Filipinos. It noted the YouTube video is getting nearly 77 million views from users worldwide.

Meanwhile, Google said other newsmaking search terms for this week include:
