Beck wins Grammy for Best Alternative Album
Beck, the genre-bending experimental artist whose postmodern arrangements have endured since the 1990s, won the Grammy for Best Alternative Music Album Sunday.
The 48-year-old Californian whose eccentric sound collages have won him both critical and commercial success, beat competition from fellow musical shapeshifters Bjork and St Vincent.
The 13th studio album of Beck, “Colors”, found praise for its lush soundscapes and energetic ear candy.
The album was the first for Beck since 2014’s “Morning Phase”, for which he earned three Grammys, including the coveted Album of the Year.
“Colors” is also nominated this year for Best Pop Solo Performance and won for Best Non-Classical Engineered Album. Beck boasts 20 career nominations, of which he has now won seven awards.
Two of Beck’s earlier albums, “Odelay” and “Sea Change”, are ranked as Rolling Stone magazine’s 500 greatest albums of all time. JB

Alanis Morissette Rocks To Jams Old And New At Sold-Out Show

NEW YORK — When Alanis Morissette hit the stage for her sold-out show at Long Island's Paramount Theater on Sunday night, it was with an exceptionally radiant smile on her face. The Canadian-American rocker's energy and vivaciousness throughout her 90-minute set hinted that she is in a remarkably good place in her life these days.
The alternative rock superstar was in the tri-state area promoting Havoc and Bright Lights, her first album since giving birth to a son in December 2010 with her husband, Mario "Souleye" Treadway. Alanis performed a handful of new tracks from the upbeat album, including the catchy first single, "Guardian," which fans had already memorized enough to sing along with.
She also performed a number of her biggest hits, beginning with "All I Really Want" from "Jagged Little Pill," which solidified her status in rock history by going sixteen times platinum since its 1995 release. Her huge voice led a chorus of singing fans through "You Learn," "Hand in My Pocket," "Head Over Feet," "Hands Clean," and "You Oughtta Know," which she performed with such perfect feistiness that one might have forgotten how things have turned out so well for her lately. During "Ironic," she adjusted a lyric slightly, when she sang, "It's like meeting the man of your dreams and then meeting his beautiful... husband." Everyone screamed with glee for that small update, of course.
When Alanis wasn't singing her lungs out, blowing on the harmonica or giving a peace sign, she was jamming out with an energy that captivated the room. These jam sessions included her playing on the bass guitar and flinging her incredibly long brown hair in ways that would put any pop star or hair-metal rock star to shame. She closed the night off with an encore including her beautiful power ballad, "Uninvited" and the song she dedicated to the fans at the show, appropriately being "Thank U."
Music from six of Alanis' very different albums — and life phases — all projected from a woman who is clearly at the top of her game, in both her professional and personal life. Amid the break-up anthems, the existential dilemmas and the promise of being a great mother, it was a blast to hear what Alanis has been through to get to where she was on Sunday night, singing with a huge smile on her face.

Color It Red

The alternative pop/rock band Color It Red was formed in 1989 after a teen film inspired three schoolmates, mainly vocalist Cooky Chua, then keyboardist Maricar Florendo and rhythm guitarist Barbi Cristi-Paraguya.
Taking their name from a crossword puzzle, the band became a fixture at colleges and universities, performing in different events and finally at the RJ Pinoy Woodstock concert after winning in a talent contest.
In the early '90s, the group's numerous appearances at the celebrated Club Dredd carved a significant following. Color It Red's debut album, Hand Painted Sky, was released in 1994 by Alpha Records where it went platinum, and the band was voted Best New Artist at the Awit Awards soon after.
Color It Red has established themselves as one of the most popular and critically praised alternative acts. One of the band’s hit songs is "Paglisan", a song that tells of the sentiments of departing from one’s love, has become part of Philippine pop culture as one of the better OPM ballads. Currently, the band consists of Cooky Chua, Barbi Cristi-Paraguya, Bopip Paraguya, Ariel Policarpio, Jayvee Torres and Kwanchi Vergara, all of which have been in the industry for at least close to 3 decades. Nowadays, though each having day jobs already, Color It Red occasionally gets invited for corporate events and launches, continuing to play the music we all have grown up with.

Morrissey is coming to Manila
MANILA, Philippines - Morrissey Live In Manila The Greatest Hits Tour is happening on May 13, Sunday, at the World Trade Center in Pasay City. Watch the former frontman of The Smiths show you what alternative rock is really about. Tickets are available at all TicketWorld outlets.
Steven Patrick Morrissey, known as Morrissey, is the main lyricist and vocalist of the iconic band, The Smiths. The Smiths is considered the most important alternative rock band to emerge from the British independent music scene in the 1980s, behind the hits Please, Please, Please Let Me Get What I Want, Stop Me If You Think You’ve Heard This One Before, There Is a Light That Never Goes Out, the former song famously covered by Zooey Deschanel’s indie band She & Him and the latter song was featured in the soundtrack of (500) Days of Summer. English DJ Mark Ronson recomposed Stop Me If You Think You’ve Heard This One Before as a soulful disco track.
According to Scott Timberg, a critic from The LA Times, Morrissey “patented the template for modern indie rock, first as the frontman for seminal mope-pop band The Smiths and then during his ongoing… solo career.” He also goes on to say that the ‘90s Britpop movement and the emphasis on an English lineage of bands like Oasis, Blur and Pulp stemmed from The Smiths as well as the playful twist to the traditional notions of gender and sexuality of bands like Suede, Bloc Party and The Magnetic Fields.
Little Asia is the major sponsor and official caterer of Morrissey Live in Manila. You may contact TicketWorld at www.ticketworld.com.ph or call at 891-9999. Ticket prices: VIP P5,550 (reserved seating) and Titanium P3,550 (free seating) plus applicable service charge.
