Alas, chances are you won’t be able to get the Oppo R3 right now. In fact, you may never get to own one, except if you live in China. It’s made for China’s 4G networks and elsewhere it would be stuck to 3G speeds. And that’s something some other, even thinner, devices can deliver.
Specs wise, the R3 packs a 1.6GHz quad-core Qualcomm Snapdragon 400 chip, 5-inch 720p HD screen, 1GB of RAM, 8GB of expandable storage, 8-megapixel rear and 5-megapixel front cameras. Android 4.3 Jelly Bean is running the show with Oppo’s own ColorOS singing on top. In China, this unit will go for 2,299 RMB, which translates into some $369.
Oppo had quite a ride in the last few years. Few of their smartphones managed to get a ton of attention from the Western media. The Oppo N1 has that unique swivel camera, while the Find 7 sports a QHD screen (one model at least) and the ability to take 50-megapixel photos using a software trick. Alas, their products are still only available unlocked with no carrier subsidies included.
