LOOK: Bill Gates caught falling in line for burger at fast food joint

Microsoft co-founder and philanthropist Bill Gates proved that being a billionaire does not exempt him from falling in line to grab a burger at a fast food joint in Washington, United States.

A picture of Gates wearing a maroon long-sleeve shirt, black pants and shoes while standing in line at Seattle-based fast food chain Dick’s Drive-In, was posted by Microsoft alumnus Mike Galos via Facebook on Jan. 15.


The photo, which has gone viral, has garnered over 22,800 likes and reactions, and 18,200 shares, as of this writing.

“When you’re worth about $100,000,000,000 (about P5.2 trillion), run the largest charity in the history of the world and stand in line for a burger, fries and Coke at Dick’s like the rest of us…” wrote Galos.


Galos then took a swipe at President Donald Trump: “This is how real rich people behave unlike the gold toilet seat wannabe poser in the White House.”

In the comments section of his post, Galos explained that he only posted the photo but that it was taken by another Microsoft alumnus on Jan. 13. The unnamed ex-employee shared the photo to a closed Microsoft alumni board. Galos also said he often runs into Gates at another local burger chain which the billionaire frequents.

“Do you know if he reacted, or if he knew his picture was being taken?” one commenter asked. Galos replied: “No idea. Bill’s not big on attention but is generally friendly and understands he’s a bit of a celebrity. ”

In response to Galos’ criticism of Trump, one netizen, Eileen Prager Perry Schwartz, suggested Gates run for the presidency. “I think he’d consider it a demotion from running the foundation,” was Galos’ reply.

Other netizens took to the comments section to express their admiration for the billionaire.

One commenter, Joan Sewall, praised Gate’s humility.

Another netizen, Jody Allan Dobis, compared Gates to a former U.S. president, also known for his modesty and philanthropy.

Burger King has cologne for hamburger lovers in Japan

TOKYO — For hamburger aficionados who can’t get enough of it, Burger King has an answer: a grilled burger-scented fragrance.

Burger King said Friday that the limited “Whopper” grilled beef burger-scented cologne will be sold only one day on April 1, and only in Japan.

Sounds too good to be true? But it’s not an April Fools’ Day joke. The date marks the “Whopper” burger day for the company.

The limited “Flame Grilled” fragrance can be purchased at 5,000 yen ($40) per purchase of the burger that comes with flame-grilled beef. There will be only 1,000 of them.

Burger King said it hoped the scent would also seduce new grill-beef burger fans.

McDonald's CEO steps down as sales decline

NEW YORK — McDonald’s CEO Don Thompson is stepping down as the world’s biggest hamburger chain fights to hold onto customers and transform its image.

The company said Thompson, who has been CEO for two-and-a-half years, will be replaced by Chief Brand Officer Steve Easterbrook. Previously, Easterbrook has led efforts related to marketing and menus and served as president of McDonald’s Europe.

McDonald’s Corp., which has more than 35,000 locations around the world, has been struggling amid intensifying competition and changing attitudes about food. Earlier this month, the company reported falling earnings and sales and said it making major changes this year bring back customers and save money. It said it would slow down new restaurant openings in some markets. It’s also making menu changes.

Thompson will leave March 1 after nearly 25 years with the company.

Among the challenges Easterbrook will inherit as the chief executive: the image that fast-food is junk food; the growing number of places like convenience stores selling cheap, ready-to-eat food and the surging popularity of places like Chipotle that position themselves as being of higher quality.

McDonald’s says it’s already working to address such issues, including a campaign designed to dispel common myths about its food. To address the popularity of more premium, customized burgers, it also plans to roll out an option that lets customers build their own burgers by tapping a touchscreen.

In after-hours trading, shares of McDonald’s jumped 3 percent to $91.55. The stock has declined about 6 percent in the past year while broader markets are up in the double digits.
