Report: Tim Tebow gone in Denver if Peyton Manning signs with Broncos

Despite last season's playoff run and intense national interest, the Denver Broncos don't plan to keep quarterback Tim Tebow if they can sign Peyton Manning, according to a published report.

The report from Pro Football Talk, which cited an unidentified "source with knowledge of the dynamics in Denver," said the team prefers to trade Tebow rather than release him.

"The visit was productive," a Broncos source told The Denver Post. "The team is hopeful and encouraged by the time spent" with Manning.

Manning's agent didn't accompany him to Denver. Manning is expected to announce his decision when free agency opens Tuesday.

Manning met this past week with Broncos officials, including executive vice president John Elway. No offer has been made. Still uncertain is Manning's ability to pass a physical exam coming off multiple neck surgeries.

Pro Football Talk identified the Jacksonville Jaguars as a potential landing spot for Tebow, a former first-round pick who was a star player at Nease High School in Ponte Vedra Beach, Fla., and the University of Florida.

Tebow would remain with the Broncos if Manning decides to sign elsewhere.

Manning, a free agent after being released by the Indianapolis Colts, flew to Phoenix on Saturday night for meetings with the Arizona Cardinals. After the Cardinals, Manning reportedly is going to Florida to meet with the Miami Dolphins.

NFL Star Shawne Merriman Cops Called to Vegas Hotel

Buffalo Bills linebacker Shawne Merriman came face to face with police in Vegas this morning ... after a friend alerted hotel security that the NFL star may have harmed himself ... but it turned out to be a case of a simple over-reaction.

Law enforcement sources tell us ... officers were dispatched to Merriman's room at the Cosmopolitan Hotel after the friend claimed he had received startling text messages from Shawne ... which made the friend fear for Shawne's safety.

But when cops arrived to the room ... we're told they talked things out with Shawne and quickly concluded he did not pose a threat to himself or others.

Sources tell us Merriman also denied sending any texts about harming himself.

We spoke with Shawne's rep ... who told us, "It was an over-reaction on the part of whoever called. Shawne was fine."

The rep adds, "He had taken some cold medicine and was having breathing issues ... Shawne's physical safety was never in jeopardy."
